We’re trying to teach EM and MR a good work ethic and haven’t been a lick successful at that. After Dad made some pudding, he went up to offer the kids a job and we could have predicted the outcome…
Dad: Who’s willing to do a job?
CJ: I will!
Dad: You don’t even know what it is yet.
CJ: I don’t care, I like to work hard.
Dad: MR?
MR: Maybe…
Dad: EM?
EM: Is it a pay job?
Dad: Nope.
EM: Nah, not if it’s not a pay job.
Dad: MR last chance?
MR: Hmmm, nah, not if it’s not a pay job.
Dad: Okay, thanks. Come on CJ.
And Dad tells CJ he needs him to clean out the pudding bowl really good with a spoon and eat it all! : ) Later EM and MR said they think they’ll say yes to the next job, but we’ll see! I know they don't have logic and won't really get it, so maybe it's more cruel than educational. But maybe one day...

we've done similar things here at home...we can always hope it pays off in the future.
Yep. Ditto. The daughter doesn't get what work ethic is at ALL but our boys will work all day and all night if you give them a quarter.
It was fun, wasn't it? I've done similar. BTW, your lie/rock story inspired me today. I completely changed my approach. I didn't get the outcome I wanted, but I sure felt a lot better.

Somebody in Sunday School the other day said that they keep a list of jobs that they will pay for and how much they pay posted on the fridge. In order to get to do a paying job you have to have all your regular nonpaying chores done first. I might try it.
What a great idea! I've got to try that with Anastasia, though I know she'll accuse me of "not being fair"! She's the same way about work, and it drives me crazy!
I may have to try this one, and at the very least it gives a bit of reward to the ones who get it. Sometimes I feel like I need to do special things like that for them as they often get left in the background.
HA!.. Yes my Mr only works for pay.. and that still takes a lot of coaxing.. doesn't happen very often.. but we can dream of it for one day.. :)
I love this. Gotta try it.
